Russell Witkop began designing butterfly artwork many years ago. His interest in their fantastic colors and habits is what lead him to persue this form of art. When he first began creating displays, he was turned off by the overpriced cubes, flat wall specimen displays and other unimaginative work that made up the market. He wanted his work to capture these creatures in the manner people are accustomed to observing them in nature. Russell gathered materials and began to arrange and create displays that seemed to explode out of their cases with energy, color and style.

Negative space, color, tension, and drama are some of the things he keeps in mind when creating displays. Most of his work is three dimensional and he strives to capture the viewers imagination as their eyes move from specimen to specimen. He starts with a general pattern and then incorporates a type of butterfly or moth into it. He wants to bring joy and happiness to those that appreciate these fine creatures.

I hope you enjoy Russells many creations, and please feel free to contact him if interested in the displays.
